What is Parasailing?

Parasailing is a recreational adventure sport, and is also known as parascending or parakiting. In this activity, a person is attached to a specially designed canopy wing, like a parachute, which is towed behind a vehicle. When the vehicle starts to move, the person is pulled along while the air makes the canopy wing (parachute) to open quickly and fly high up in the air. It is very different from paragliding, where you run downwards a cliff to gain flight, more like free flying. In parasailing, being attached to a vehicle will provide you with better stability and safety. Parasailing is performed while hanging onto a harness or sitting in a gondola.

Parasailing Safety Tips

  • Make sure the harness, canopy wing and the towing rope/cord are in good condition.
  • Never parasail in bad weather like rain, fog or storm.
  • It is recommended that the parasailer should be at least 6 years of age and should not weigh above 100 Kgs.
  • One must avoid parasailing if he/she suffers from fear of heights or panics easily or any other medical condition: high blood pressure, pregnancy, etc.
  • Make sure the guide teaches you hand signals to communicate once you are in the air and away from the vehicle.
  • Also, kindly wear comfortable clothes so that you can enjoy doing this activity.
