TUNG FORT (23 kms from Pawna Lake)
Tung Fort stands elevated at 1075 metres above sea level, and is surrounded by water bodies from three sides. Breath-taking views promise the trekkers a blissful journey atop the fort. The trek is an adventurous one with not-so-perfect trails and steep climbs. But once atop the fort, you will feel rejuvenated as you breathe in fresh air and back in the sun rays emerging from the fog! The place can be reached via car in an hour's time.
LOHAGAD FORT (15.6 Kms from Pawna Lake)
Literally meant as Iron Fort in Marathi, Lohagad Fort rises to an elevation of 3389 feet above the sea level. Overlooking the Pawna Lake, Lohagad Fort has been declared as a protected monument by Archaeology Survey of India. The Fort has four doors viz. Ganesh Darwaja, Narayan Darwaja, Hanuman Darwaja and MahaDarwaja. The viewing point of Lohagad Fort resembles a scorpion's sting, hence the name Vinchu Kata. Apart from being an easy-to-climb fort, Lohagad Fort trek is interesting and appealing to adventurers seeking trekking thrill and picturesque location. It will take around 45 minutes from Pawna Lake by car.
KARLA AND BHAJA CAVES (Karla is 28.4 kms from Pawna Lake and Bhaja is 18.7 Kms from Pawna Lake)
These are among the oldest caves of India, dating back to 160 BC! These caves are a group of 22 rock-cut caves, believed to have been in existence since the Himayana Phase of Buddhism. The Archaeology Survey of India also protects the caves as a Monument of National Importance. The caves should be visited while one is planning to trek at Lohagad and Visapur forts. The locations can be reached via car. It is majorly take an hour for both places to reach from Pawna.
